Classed as one of the greatest films in cinema history, by MGM Studios, it started out as a black and white farm tornado disaster, but turned into an amazing technicolour musical adventure, with its heroine Dorothy Gale taking the lead and her beloved dog Toto. On her journey to get home, she travels along the yellow brick road meeting the Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and the Scarecrow, who all aim to help her to get to the Emerald City and locate the Legendary Wizard of Oz, said to be the only one able to help. Along their way they encounter the Wicked Witch of the West, flying monkeys and a field full of sleep inducing poppies and all because Dorothy landed the farmhouse upon the Wicked Witch of the East and Glinda the Good Witch, magically removed the bad witch’s red ruby slippers and placed them upon Dorothy’s feet!
First released in 1939, this now much loved classic is known for its vibrant colour and music. In fact Herbert Stothart won two Oscars, one for the Best Original Score and the second for ‘Over the Rainbow’ – Best original Song.
